The Pan African research consortium funded by Science For Africa Foundation and its partners, was honored with the “2024 award” by the Ivorian science journalism Association “Médias pour la Science et le Développement (MSD)”.
Since 2023, MSD organized annually media event to award the best Ivorian science journaliss and the institutions promoting evidence through medias. The 2024 ceremony took place on may 10th, 2024 in Abidjan (Côte d’Ivoire). The Centre Suisse de Recherches Scientifiques en Côte d’Ivoire (CSRS), the host institution of the consortium Afrique One, Prof. Bassirou Bonfoh, Director of Afrique One, and Emmanuel Dabo, communication manager of Afrique One, received respectively awards for their remarkable contribution in promoting science with in medias.
“We acknowledge the role medias played in translating science information to lay audiences making easy the promotion of knowledge, the ownership of scientific evidences for decision making at each scale. It is the reason why we developed effective collaboration with the media and the training in science for journalists said Prof. Bassirou Bonfoh.
Since its launch, Afrique One has developed a media engagement strategy that includes capacity building for journalists, content production and dissemination in media. For example, in 2023, Afrique One trained around 20 journalists on One Health gave a support for a journalistic report on One Health operationalization in the fight against Flu avian in Côte d’Ivoire. Ly Aimé, a journalist at the national radio of Côte d’Ivoire “Radio Côte d’Ivoire”, received the award of the 2024 best journalist of Côte d’Ivoire some months after reporting the work of Afrique One on Buruli ulcer.
In addition, Afrique One supports the development of the African Science Communication Agency (ASCA), a private company founded by Emmanuel Dabo to promote scientific evidences and design communication strategy for research programmes and institutes.
