One Health framework at DELTAS Africa 2025

The 2025 annual meeting of the Developing Excellence in Leadership, Training and Science in Africa (DELTAS Africa) programme will be held in Cape Town, South Africa, from July 28 to 30, 2025. Funded by the Wellcome Trust and the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) under Science For Africa Foundation (SFA), DELTAS Africa at its second phase, aims to strengthen research capacity in Africa by training a new generation of scientific leaders.

Afrique One is taking part in this important meeting organized by the SFA in partnership with Climate Systems Analysis Group (CSAG) and Environmental Humanities South of the University of Cape Town (UCT). This event will bring together researchers, policymakers, funders, and practionners in health, climate, and social science.

During this meeting, Afrique One, as a grantee of the DELTAS Africa programme, will share its research progress on the One Health research and capacity development. This will be an opportunity to discuss current Africa challenges and identifies the context specific solutions that Afrique One can provide.

A 7-member delegation, led by Professor Bassirou Bonfoh, Director of Afrique One at Centre Suisse de Recherches Scientifiques en Côte d’Ivoire (CSRS), will represent Afrique One.  The programme manager, the communication manager, the finance manager and a scientific supervisor are part of the delegation.

Two fellows have been internally and competitively selected to present the progress of the One Health approach to their work: Dr. Caroline Mangare (South Eastern Kenya University) and Mr Ismaël Coulibaly Dognimin (University Peleferon Gon Coulibaly, Côte d’Ivoire). Dr. Mangare works on viral immune responses and adoptive immunotherapy. Her latest publication is entitled “Therapeutic Opportunities for Graft-Versus-Host Disease After Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation: Is Africa Prepared?” Ismaël Coulibaly is a PhD candidate in sociology of health and environment. His research focusses on social conditions and wellbeing of communities exposed to Neglected Tropical diseases. In 2023, he published his study on the “Endemicity of Wounds and Sociocultural Factors of Management in the Tiassalé Health District, Côte d’Ivoire.

The DELTAS annual meeting 2025 serves as a platform to showcase groundbreaking research in health, climate, and social sciences; strengthen cross-sector partnerships; reflect on a decade of impact in building Africa’s research capacity; and envision the future of scientific leadership on the continent.
