Afrique One-ASPIRE (2016-2022)

Description

Afrique One-African Science Partnership for Intervention Research Excellence (ASPIRE) is the second phase of the activities of the consortium Afrique One.

Objective

The focus of Afrique One–ASPIRE was on endemic zoonotic diseases (diseases that are transmissible between animals and humans) through capacity building. Its aspiration was to harness the unique societal drivers of Africa to build a world-leading Pan-African research capacity in One Health science.

Outcomes

  • 72 African masters, doctoral and post-doctoral students from various disciplines were trained, supervised and supervised
  • More than 7,600 people were reached during free face-to-face trainings held at several training institutes in West and East Africa, as well as through massive open online courses (MOOC)
  • 126 scientific publications were produced by Afrique One-ASPIRE fellows and their supervisors.
  • Creation of tools for the elimination of rabies
  • Identification of a new diagnostic tool for tuberculosis
  • Identification of the potential of certain types of foods in the management of neglected tropical diseases.
  • Development of an inexpensive tool for storing rabies vaccine at room temperature, making vaccination campaigns possible without electricity.
  • Additional mobilization of 25 million US dollars (more than 15,000 billion CFA francs)
