Summary of the module

Research work require a widespread diffusion to impact knowledge and generate change. But when communicating, there are also ethical issues, because poor communication of scientific work can lead to serious consequences: the breakdown of trust between society and scientists, which can result in the non-use of care and mistrust, or inversely a runaway of results presented more spectacularly than they should. It is therefore essential to know how to communicate the results of your work to peers, but also to potential beneficiaries of this work, whether public communities or decision-makers. This module provides the basics of ethical and effective communication.

Detailed content of the sessions

General principles of communication, ethical issues
Scientific communication with peers (Oral, Poster, Panel at conferences, workshops...)
Scientific writing (journal identification, article writing, thesis writing)
Scientific English
Communication with the public, media, decision-makers.

Specific objectives:

At the end of the module, participants are able to:
Communicate with the general public and the media in a written and oral manner (popularization of science);
Engage the authorities on issues and solutions (policy influencing);
Communicate orally with their peers (posters, oral scientific communications);
Defend their thesis with peers (scientific writing, oral presentations posters);
Write and communicate in French and English.
