The initiative Developing Excellence and Leadership Training and Science (DELTAS) Africa II was launched on March 13, 2023, in Nairobi, Kenya. DELTAS Africa II is a long-term, multimillion dollar research programme implemented by the Science for Africa (SFA) Foundation with the support of Wellcome and the UK Foreign Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO). It seeks to produce research leaders who will drive locally relevant and high-quality health research impacting on science, policy and practice in Africa and contributing to improved health and development on the continent.

In December 2019, a call for DELTAS Africa II was opened. 14 grantees including Afrique One consortium which has transitioned from African Science Partnership for Intervention Research Excellence (ASPIRE) to Research Excellence for African Challenges in Health (REACH). Afrique One-REACH aims at:

  2. Co-developing integrated intervention strategies with national integrated health programmes and communities;
  3. Enhancing One Health research capacity and leadership for individuals and institutions.

“We are pleased to be part of the DELTAS Africa II journey, which is a continuous pathway for African scientists to reflect on the challenges of scientific research.
